Beschreibung
Engineering with Rubber
This book provides the beginning engineer with the principles of rubber science and technology: what rubber is, how it behaves, and how to design engineering components with rubber.
It introduces the reader to the principles on which successful use of rubber depends and offers solutions to the questions engineers in rubber processing face every day:
- How is an elastomer chosen and a formulation developed
- Why is rubber highly-elastic and relatively strong
- How to estimate the stiffness and the strength of a product
- How to guarantee high quality and durability
The authors describe current practices in rubber engineering. At the end of each chapter, sample questions and problems (together with solutions) are provided, allowing the reader to gauge how well he/she has mastered the material.

Contents:
- Materials and Compounds
- Elasticity
- Dynamic Mechanical Properties
- Strength
- Mechanical Fatigue
- Durability
- Design of Components
- Finite Element Analysis
- Test and Specifications.

Error on page 266

The formula 1/(1+E0/Eb) equation (8.10) page 266 should be1/(1+Ec/Eb) where Ec is the Compression modulus calculated in the equations 8.7 or 8.8. Otherwise the curves in figure 8.4 do not converge towards the Eb limit. This is normally ignored unless the ratio of Ec/Eb exceeds 10%

Dear Gerard Young, Thank you for your feedback. Hanser’s authors and editors do their best to spot and correct errors, but sometimes a few slip through, unfortunately. We very much value error reports from readers, and would certainly make the necessary corrections in the next edition, should we publish one. However, in this case, it is unlikely we will publish a new edition, as Alan Gent sadly died not long after publication of this book: https://physicstoday.scitation.org/do/10.1063/pt.4.1488/full/.  If we can find a suitable successor author, however, we would certainly make him/her aware of the reported error.
